The Ultimate Guide to (Easy!) Holiday Hosting

December 02, 2016

Hosting during the holidays is nothing short of an art form. The house has to be clean, the food has to be good, and the eggnog needs to be flowing. While some people are natural born hosts, others have a more difficult time piecing together all the details for their holiday soirées. Simplicity is a recurring theme at The Optimist Co. and we believe that it can be applied to the principals of hosting as well. We combined our favorite hosting tips to bring you The Ultimate Guide to (Easy!) Holiday Hosting.

Enlist Help

Asking for help is one of the easiest ways to plan an excellent event or party. Enlist free help from family and friends, or splurge and hire any additional help that you might need. For example, hire a local cleaning company for a few hours to clean all the spots that you usually miss during routine cleaning. Your guests will appreciate how fresh and inviting your house feels, and you won't have to worry about dog hair getting all over your favorite holiday sweater.

Step Away From the Stove

Unless you love cooking and baking for hours at a time, the task of preparing enough food to feed a crowd can often feel daunting. Instead of going homemade, research local grocery stores and order pre-made food that will be ready for you on the day of your party. Most grocery stores have a sample menu of dishes that they can prepare, ranging from finger food to full blown three course meals. Pick up the food the morning of the party, arrange it on beautiful serving ware, and take credit for all the work (that you didn't do!).

Create Signature Drinks

Everyone loves going to a party and trying new signature drink creations. Chose one or two recipes that you can make in bulk and fill glass dispenser's with the cocktails right before your guests arrive. Freeze fruit ahead of time to add to the dispenser to keep the drinks cold without watering them down. Create cute signage that includes a fun and festive name, and you now have your own bartender!

Need inspiration? We love this Sparkling Pomegranate Mimosas from Joyful Healthy Eats which you can find the recipe for on her amazing website and our Holiday Pinterest Board. It's only 4 ingredients and the perfect sparkle for your next holiday festivity.

Move and Groove

Music plays a huge role in the setting of any party, but especially a holiday party. Unless you are going the route of live musicians, don't stress about the party playlist! Between Pandora, iTunes, and Spotify, there are hundreds of holiday playlists at your disposal. Using a set of high quality speakers will ensure that the tunes come out crisp and clear all night long.
